Em Baker is a writer/director from Melbourne. Em's debut feature documentary I AM NO BIRD had its world premiere at Sydney Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Australian Documentary, and will have a theatrical release with Potential Films across Australia and New Zealand this November. Em is currently in development on THE VINYL RECORDS: DESTROY PHALLUS OPPRESSION, a Screen Australia-supported feature documentary with Film Camp. Em was recently selected for Cinespace's Diversity Writer's Lab with Jane Allen. Em’s directorial debut, SPOKE won the Audience Choice Award at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival. Em has crewed on films for the last eight years in a variety of roles, including VFX on BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD and MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, and as a production/ editing assistant on documentaries INEQUALITY FOR ALL (winner of the 2013 Special Jury Prize at Sundance) and THE LAST SEASON (Independent Spirit Award nominee, 2015). Em was a 2019 ATOM Awards judge, and in her spare time she enjoys podcasts, button-mashing in Mortal Kombat, and attempting to do gymnastics.
